Ombudsman for Values and Cultural Conflicts
Federal Minister Dr Heinz Fassmann launched the new Ombudsman for Values and Cultural Conflicts, under the leadership of Susanne Wiesinger, in December 2018. Ms Wiesinger took up her post as Ombudswoman on 1 February 2019.
As an independent point of contact, she helps teachers, school management, parents and pupils with advice in the event of grievances concerning individual schools and failures by the authorities. As part of her role, Ms Wiesinger will take stock of social and cultural conflicts in schools across school types, throughout Austria. Building on her experiences in a Viennese new secondary school, the aim is to remedy problems that exist in other types of school and federal states and to create a forum for dialogue between the affected parties.
“Teachers need a contact with experience, who will listen and support them by suggesting constructive solutions. As Ombudswoman I want to back them up” says Ms Wiesinger.
