Research and Development
Acting on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research Federal Ministry of Sciene Research and Economy, the Commission for Development Research (KEF) has supported research partnerships between Austrian researchers and partners in developing countries since 1981. The Commission was established as an Austrian follow-up to the UN Conference on Science and Technology for Development held in Vienna in 1979 and integrated into the Austrian Academic Exchange Service (OEAD GmbH) in January 2009. Besides supporting cooperative research partnerships, the Commission engages in public relations activities focused on “research for development”.
In particular, the Commission for Development Research supports solution-oriented research projects of Austrian researchers cooperating with partners in developing countries. This includes the scientific preparation of major project applications to be submitted to national and international funding bodies as well as the scientific components of development projects. Since 1981, funding has been provided for almost 200 projects.
To stimulate development research in Austria and enhance its public visibility, the “Austrian Development Research Award” was created in 2013. This prize, which is co-sponsored by the Commission and the Ministry, is awarded by the Federal Minister of Science and Research Federal Ministry of Sciene Research and Economy every other year.
Information on current projects is available from the Commission for Development Research (KEF).
