Center Austria

Center Austria was founded in 1997 to administer the wide range of activities growing out of UNO’s partnership with the University of Innsbruck. This collaboration began in 1976 with start of the highly successful UNO-Innsbruck International Summer School. A friendship treaty between the two universities was signed in 1983 and was followed by a Sister-City Treaty in 1995. The Center is promoting the study and understanding of Austria and Europe in the American Gulf South region with scholarly symposia, lectures and publications.

Three series, Contemporary Austrian Studies, Transatlantica, and Studies in Central European History, Culture and Literature, are published regularly. The Center promotes the Exchange of students, research fellows, and faculty from universities in Austria, such as Innsbruck, Vienna, and Graz. This enhances and highlights international student mobility and the Focus of European studies on UNO’s campus. The center supports the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation, aiming at keeping the memory of the Marshall Plan alive.
