Research and development

In the development research sector, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) is launching a new and more heavily funded programme called Cooperation Development Research starting in 2019. The Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) is in charge of its implementation. The programme supports collaborative projects that Austrian higher education and research institutions conduct with their counterparts in developing countries. The object is to help to solve local problems and thereby reduce the brain drain from these countries. The BMBWF covers the mobility expenses incurred by Austrian partners and their collaborators in the target countries.

Every two years, the BMBWF also awards the Austrian Prize for Development Research to boost public awareness and to honour exceptional achievements in this field. OeAD runs the programme.
