University of Vienna
Institute for East European History
The Viennese Austrian and Central European Center has been associated with the Institute for East European History of the University of Vienna since 2007. The subject “East European History“ is held in high esteem at the University of Vienna due to its geopolitical, economic, social, and cultural circumstances. Both in research and in teaching, there is a strong tendency towards interdisciplinarity resulting from the physical proximity to the institutes of Slavic studies, Judaism, Finno-ugric studies, Oriental studies, and Political science. Presently, more than 1,500 students are enrolled and about 60 theses (MA/PhD) are being supervised.
The most important tasks of the Center are the promotion of promising PhD students, the publication of the annual proceedings of the Annual Convention of the Centers, the interconnection of all the nine Austrian Centers acting across 3 continents, and the realization of common Projects and international symposia.
